Jennifer Kukorlo
I am a lifelong resident of Alexandria, Virginia and for as long as I can remember, I have been creating elaborate abstract drawings. Also, for as long as I can remember I have had an anxious and busy mind. My artwork calmed me. I have had no formal training or schooling in the arts. It was something that was as natural and instinctual to me as breathing.
I had my first show over 20 years ago at the Lawrence Gallery in Alexandria. While it was a success, it would be my last until 2016 where I exhibited in Del Ray Artisan’s gallery.
For many years, I stopped creating. I suffered many losses of close relatives. Consumed with grief, I lost the motivation to create. In 2010 I was blessed with twins. When I went back to work, a coworker commented on my doodles one day in a meeting. The conversation gave me pause and inspiration to start. I began creating again. I was working part-time and while the babies napped I had the opportunity to reconnect with my passion. It felt like I had been reunited with an old friend and I have not stopped. That was 2011. At the beginning of 2016 I made a promise that I would take my work from the attic to the gallery to be shared.
My hope is that those who view my artwork can feel the joy it brings me to create.
